In Chennai, two of the AIADMK factions led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswamy and his predecessor O Panneerselvam are expected to decide on a merger today.
The Panneerselvam faction senior functionaries are in a huddle at his residence since this morning to decide on the finer details of the terms for merger. Ministers and loyalists of Mr Edappadi Palaniswamy have reached the party office in Chennai. Hundreds of party workers have also thronged to the party office to witness the joint appearance of both the factional leaders.
The mausoleum of late AIADMK leader and former chief minisetr J Jayalalithaa in Marina Beach has also been decked up for the possible visit of the serving and ex-chief minister.
Coinciding with the talks on the AIADMK merger, the state interim Governor Vidyasagar Rao has reached Chennai from Mumbai this afternoon. It indicates about the possibilities for a cabinet expansion, with the probable induction of a few members from the O.Panneerselvam camp. Last Friday, it was widely speculated that the two sides would be unified to bolster the party position in the state Assembly. Their coming together comes in teh wake of the sidelined party Deputy General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran raising a banner of revolt.
