Rio Olympics Silver medalist PV Sindhu will play in the title clash of the World Badminton Championships at Glasgow in Scotland today. Sindhu, who is seeded 4th in the tournament, will be eying to become the first Indian world champion shuttler when she takes on seventh placed Nozomi Okuhara of Japan for the Gold medal.
Sindhu and Okuhara have won 3 matches apiece in the six matches they have played against each other, so far.
Sindhu has bagged Bronze twice in the Championships in the past — in 2013 and 2014. Today’s will be her maiden final appearance and thus her best ever performance. She is assured of a Silver medal, but the coveted yellow metal is what she will be looking for.
In the semi-finals yesterday, while Sindhu had defeated Yufei Chen, 21-13, 21-10, Okuhara beat Saina Nehwal, 12-21, 21-17, 21-10. Saina settled for a Bronze medal.
